Leisure activities are also shown in numerous stained glass panels, such as hunting and playing chess in the first two samples from Chartres cathedral, France. Putting these activities in the stained glass windows encouraged the medieval viewer to see their whole life, including secular activities, as part of their Christian life.
In the third item, we see how artists depicted subjects, even historical saints, in contemporary late medieval garb. This again helped the viewer associate with the scenes, making the saints seem more "real".
